Pot Plant, George Town

Limited Edition
Edition of 20

Image Size
20 x 30 cm

While travelling in Malaysia at the end of 2018, I was astounded by the level of plantlife cloaking cities like the colourful World Heritage site of George Town, Pinang. At times, it felt that if humans were to abandon Malaysia tomorrow, nature was ready to regain its rightful place. While in Melbourne we might need a wheel-thrown handmade ceramic pot to house our plant friends, in Malaysia, almost anything goes. Upcycled foam vegetable boxes, rubbish bins and even mop buckets join earthenware and plastic pots of all dimensions. And nothing looks out of place in this vibrant historical port city home to myriad ethnicities and religions.
